Labor Day at the Shore

Kern and I decided the best way to ceremoniously say good-bye to summer was to get out of the city and head to the country.  Thankfully we have the most perfect piece of country less than two hours away.

We brought our bikes along this time and went for a long ride on Saturday--exploring the "Neck" region near our cottage.

These amber waves of grain make me want to continue my "America the Beautiful" singing from last week.

On Sunday, Kern ran while I rode my bike along.  I just couldn't get excited for a long run...and this is supposed to be vacation, right?!

I learned to ride with no hands!  A HUGE accomplishment for scardy little ol' me.

On Sunday afternoon, we set out to explore some of the other little towns along the Chesapeake Bay.  We wandered through the historical downtown of Easton, then drove on to St. Michaels.

I met a friendly giraffe...

We were absolutely charmed by the town--it was the perfect mixture of history, cute stores and delicious seafood.

I found a Christmas shop!

I collect Christmas ornaments from places I have traveled--got another one this weekend!

I had the most amazing crab cakes for dinner!

We relaxed after dinner and watched the boats in the harbor.

We did get our boat out and ride around, but I didn't take any photos.  Sometimes you just have to live in the moment...
